Where a parent or carer guides a child to be ever more aware of the impact one may have on another, that child will become steadily more empathetic. If, on the other hand, a child is not shown how to contain their emotions, or not guided in the direction of empathy, a very different pattern unfolds. A child learns about themselves and about life in general from their individual and unique experiences. Each child has their own basic temperament at birth, and this is tempered by experience and adapts to the experiences and circumstances faced.

A baby has an instinctive need for attention and approval. There is a need for eye contact and human touch. In one terrible experiment which was devised and executed many years ago, this need was demonstrated in a very harsh way. Babies were placed in two groups – one group had all the “basic needs” of food, water, being changed, etc fulfilled, but no eye contact and no “unnecessary” touch, love or hugs. The other babies were given eye contact, love and affection as well as the other so-called “basic needs”. The babies in the first group had trouble in growing, some even died. A dramatic and terrible way in which to prove the need for human affection in our lives.

One of the most important things in life is the ability to create and to maintain good relationships. As we grow up the basic perceptions which we form about ourselves are based on the reactions of the people around us. Studies of feral children have shown that parts of our brains don’t even develop when deprived of human interaction.

Human interaction, and the building of relationships, is a basic necessity to comfortable human existence. Our perceptions of ourselves are formed, generally, in the first seven years of our life. If we have parents or carers who are emotionally aware and contain their own emotions well, they set a comfortable and positive example for the child to copy; and copy the child does. That’s how we learn virtually everything in life, through mimicking and copying. The emotional experiences we have in these first few years create a blue print for later life, for later relationships.

How can you step back and dissociate from the emotional connotations with chocolate and see this habit just as it is, as a habit?

The desire to eat it is not an addiction, it’s a habit and habitual thought patterns can be easily broken, so long as you become aware of certain ways in which the human mind works. Walter Mischel, a professor at Stanford University reported on some experiments a couple of decades ago in which he noted certain characteristics in young children when confronted with something that they might very well crave.

These young children were asked to try out a simple task. They were to enter a room where they would see a nice piece of candy. They could eat it immediately and that would be all they would get, but if they were to delay gratification for a certain period of time they could have double the quantity. So what was observed? Some children ate the candy immediately; they could not stop themselves. (Just as many adults just cannot stop themselves eating gooey and delicious chocolate at every opportunity.) Others tried different tactics in their attempt to resist. Some children just stared at the candy, almost as if they were competing in a “stare off” competition, but this tactic didn’t help for long; soon, they reached for that candy…

The successful candidates were observed to use strategies of distraction – they turned their backs, or started occupying themselves in doing something else until the time was up and they were rewarded with two candies instead of one. As with anything in life, if you want to achieve something, the way to success is easier if you imitate the strategies of others who have already succeeded in that task. These young children chose (either by random selection or some inner knowledge) a strategy which made it easier for them to succeed.

What we can learn from this is that the only way on which to stop the chocolate cravings is to dissociate yourself and distract yourself. The more you think about chocolate the more you will eat it. You may say that you already know this, that you just couldn’t stop yourself from thinking about eating chocolate. Walter Mischel made a further observation which is the key here. When they showed the children who had previously used a technique like the “stare off” a better way of thinking and coping, they did so quite easily and succeeded in delaying their gratification.

Walter Mischel’s observations proved that good mental thought strategies in relation to cravings can be taught, learned and acted upon. The only problem thus far for those who have suffered from chocolate cravings is that they simply did not know how to think differently, or how they could create different habitual thought processes.

You too can learn new strategies. Hypnosis allows access to your inner mind and so suggestions can be made to instill in you more appropriate instinctive patterns of thought and behavior with regards to chocolate. This is, after all, how people lived their lives before medical advancements made our lives so much easier, and allowed us the liberty to sit back on our haunches.

Illness generally manifests itself in the human body as a reflection of how we think and how we live our lives. We should listen to our bodies and question what disease or illness is telling us, and then take steps to change. Blood pressure is an easy ailment to work with. We know that if you learn to relax your blood pressure will lower. Now, I’m not saying to not go to the doctor – I am merely pointing out that there are things which can be done which are complementary to the medical advice which you are given.

If you ignore the messages which your body is providing for you, your body has an uncanny knack of providing you with another symptom and will keep doing so until you begin to listen. Your body is a self-healing organism. It is designed to heal itself and will do so providing that you give it the correct environmental conditions.

It is only in the Western world that we have drifted so far away from the natural remedies which are available to us. In the East, there is good use made of many complementary therapies and not only are they used as a cure, they are relied upon as a way of life, as a way of maintaining good health and preventing illness and disease.

stop smoking hypnosis free downloads?

I found a free download website (info@free-hypnosisdownloads.com) who haven’t charged me to download a stop smoking hypnosis session. The only way I can get the download is to click on a link from an email they sent me but I’m scared to open it incase it’s harmful to my computer. Can anyone give me some advice as my knowledge is limited on a pc.
